Justice for Trayvon Martin

The nation has been rocked by the recent trial and acquittal of George Zimmerman. Zimmerman has admitted that he used a gun to shoot Trayvon Martin, thus ending his life.  There were three possible outcomes for this case according to the law.  Zimmerman could either be found guilty of second degree murder, found guilty of manslaughter or found not guilty.  Zimmerman was acquitted of the charges and found not guilty.  By the legal definition of Manslaughter however, it would seem that Zimmerman should have been found guilty of Manslaughter.  The verdict has left many with a bad taste in their mouth to say the least.  Some persons may take the law into their own hands.  Many civil rights leaders have asked the public to remain nonviolent.  Many people still feel that this is an injustice and they need closure.  This article was written with the intent on possibly giving some that closure even though that may be a tall task. Consider this however.  The law has given Zimmerman freedom to walk in society but is he really free.  I think not.  From the moment Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon he made himself an outkast.  From that day forward persons close to Trayvon would want vengeance. As the days continue and more and more people become aware of the travesty that befell this teenager, more persons would harbor anger towards Zimmerman.  He has reportedly received death threats already.  Riots may not be breaking out nationwide at the present time but it would seem that Zimmerman has a big bullseye on his back.  In subsequent days there is no telling what type of violent situations Zimmerman may be placed in out in the public.  According to his Mixed Martial Arts teacher, Zimmerman is not a very good fighter.  The accounts of his altercation with Trayvon hint towards that as well.  Yes Zimmerman may be free to some persons, but his freedom is very much in question.  Will he wear a disguise in public?  Many questions come to my mind when the word “freedom” is used regarding Zimmerman.

When it is all said and done there is one source of justice that none of us can escape.  That is Gods justice.  When the time comes for him to meet his maker so to speak, he will have to answer for the death of Trayvon Martin.

For some people the issue is that today the justice system has failed and they do not feel comfortable with the idea that someone could be acquitted of this crime.  Many feel that our legal system is flawed and it makes them feel uneasy.  For those people this article cannot provide closure.  I would beckon them to petition their public representatives to make harsher gun laws or to change the laws on self defense.  After all, Zimmerman is the one who initiated the violent encounter.  He was told not to follow Trayvon, yet he apparently continued to follow him.  I believe that following someone you consider a threat, when you are not a police officer is initiating an altercation.  Trayvon had just as much right to roam those grounds as Zimmerman.  It would seem that maybe there is a problem with the laws themselves.  Petitioning the lawmakers seems like a good step towards gaining closure.

One day God will invoke His form of justice.  There will be justice for Trayvon.  Please continue following this blog/newsletter and I encourage you to comment on the things written in the newsletter of religion and current events.
